Let us laugh with Tumi Morake…

Feel it she is here! Tumi Morake that’s who, known for her comedic acting and now stand-up comedy, Morake, along with three of her comically correct comrades, will take over each Wednesday night’s Carnival Comedy Sessions for the next six weeks. Morake’s comedy has been described as in your face and slightly provocative. But she’s funny, isn’t that the whole point? As one of South Africa’s most respected comedians, Morake, majored in performance and writing, focussing on the comedy. It’s no wonder standing up is no laughing matter for her. Asked what can be expected from her at Carnival Comedy, Morake says “Come and hear first-hand how being 20 kilograms too light to be first lady inspired me to explore other talents!” During each six-week tenure of Carnival City’s Carnival Comedy Sessions resident comedians are given the opportunity to own all aspects of the show from the guests they invite to join them to imaging, design, set and lighting of the show. Where…? Comedian        Tumi Morake (and friends) Date                Every Wednesday from 01 May to 05 June 2013 Time                Doors open at 19h00, show starts at 20h00 Venue              Mardi Gras Theatre – Carnival City Cost                 R80.00...

eTV wants you to Step Up!

After two phenomenal seasons which uncovered the likes of  the talented crews Stunners and Tembisa Revolution, Step Up or Step Out is back on e.tv for a brand new season. Always an ultimate Mzansi street dance treat for viewers, this new season will be elevated to a new exciting level; fresh talent will be introduced to increase the entertainment value. The production team is pulling out all the stops to ensure that this season will be even more exciting than the first two seasons in attracting diverse talent and dance genres. The popular DJ Euphonik will take a place at the judging table alongside the multi-talented Khabonina and the dance legend Emile XY.  The deck-spinning maestro will be joined by two new faces on the show – hip-hop icon Slikour who replaces Dalen Lance as presenter; and co-presenter, the petite Y-FM powerhouse Tumi Voster. Lance, who will be moving from the show’s family to focus on the completion of his final year of MBL (Master of Business Leadership) post-graduate studies, fondly reflects on his presenting past on the show. “Being part of e.tv’s first successful dance reality show for two seasons has provided an incredible platform, a definite career highlight and an experience I will forever be grateful for.  I will miss getting viewers excited with all the dancing, particularly the loyal viewers of the program but the time to temporarily focus on expanding other important area in my life has arrived” says Lance. Renowned Kwaito artist and Producer Arthur Mafokate, who has played a key role in unearthing and mentoring some of dancers who have appeared on the show over the past two years, will be missed. He will be moving on to pursue other career opportunities. Sivan Pillay, Endemol Managing Director says, “Although we will miss Arthur and Dalen’s valuable contribution to the show, we are excited to announce that Euphonik, Slikour and Tumi Voster will be joining the Step Up or Step Out journey to bring viewers the best of local street culture.  We are positive that the addition of the three new faces to the team will be gladly received by viewers. Slikour will bring street cred and wit to the show whilst speaking the language of the youth.   Tumi is funky, young, knowledgeable, funny and sassy. She’s got her finger on the pulse when it comes to music, dance, and fashion and is one of South Africa’s fastest rising stars.  From a judging perspective, Euphonik will focus on music interpretation and overall performance value. His international exposure to music and dance puts him in a league unparalleled by many.” The two new co-presenters and the dynamic judging trio...

BIEN VENUE 2010

BIEN VENUE 2010

Delighted it’s a new year.  I love nothing more than a glittering scratch-free canvas to fill up with all my must-doings and dreams – we only have 355 days left of the much-vaunted big TEN OH so get a move on buddies.  And now that I have officially joined the ranks of those once-upon-a-time rather elusive but much-admired Mums, I have even LESS time to fill in my trusty blogazine… BUT, my gorgeous baby aside, our fabulous holiday in South Africa over December and into January just inspired me to get Represent a-bloggin once again and so… here goes. In case you’re confused, I’m Editorista, the once devoted (later disillusioned) born-and-bred Jozi aka Joburg aka Johannesburg resident (now refreshed). I’ve always kept an extremely low down sporty-cap darting-eyes approach to Represent, only sporadically talking from the heart and ‘putting it out there’, I kinda liked keeping my opinion under wraps. But some things change, for one, I have been living in Europe for the last two years, and two, I’ve got lots to say now I’m a mommy (we just don’t give a damn… poohpooh to all that jazz)  and I won’t be laying dodgy-low any longer. In line with my straddled existence of living both in Africa and Europe… (long story) Represent’s content is due for a shift too, i.e.  it’s not just gonna be a freaking calender place to advertise mediocre art exhibitions, nor will it be a parking space for spam-filter dodging posts with Russian lettering (cyrilla?) …. And while I will still continue to bow down to my mothercity Jozi, it’s also going to be about so much more than that.  Truth is, I don’t really know what it’s going to be, but it will be. And I hope you will be here too. And with that profound ending, I invite you to carry on with us on this mad journey called Laaf. Many bisous all over you! Editorista aka SJ PS: See you at the soccer! PPS: Thanks DF for the fabulous...

Mweet Muzi Mohale & retweet to win fab travel prizes.

Represent gets in touch with another inspirational Southern African this week who has followed their dreams and made them a reality… Meet Muzi Mohale, the intrepid travel blogger and tweeter who spends his days sharing useful information on his growing SA travel and tourism blog TravelWires – Muzi is celebrating his blog’s 3rd birthday with a bunch of freaking awesome travel prizes – all you have to do is tweet away… read below and enter fast. Sharpile Muzi for your words and hey… hook us up with the Rastafarian community in Knysna1 Hi Muzi, thanks for meeting with us, tell us a little bit about yourself: My name is Muzi Mohale born 35 years ago in Swaziland where I attended both primary and secondary education. A year after my O’ levels in 1994 I relocated to Johannesburg  to study Financial Management at Benoni Technical College. Between 2000 to 2002 I was employed by Classic FM and therefore by Moneyweb until I resigned in March this year to nurture my dreams of being a fulltime blogger. What attracted you to the tourism industry? My love for travelling and the internet attracted me to the tourism industry. Since discovering the internet in 2000 I’ve been hooked and have made it a point to learn more about running an online business. Through my work at Moneyweb, where I was involved with updating their in-house websites, I figured out that I could also earn an income from running a website as well. Then in 2003 I created www.accommodate.co.za which was basically a lodging booking portal focused on B&B’s in Soweto. Tell me about Travelwires.com – what is it and why/how did you start it? I started adding industry news on www.accommodate.co.za just to spice up the offering, as displaying only lodging facilities on a website was a stagnant exercise. Updating industry news daily was meant to generate interest with browsers so they could visit the website on a regular basis. Then in 2006, Christine Searle the owner of www.sa-venues.com sponsored the creation of www.travelwires.com a standalone website to exclusively cater for tourism news. I now blog fulltime, which allows me the opportunity to discover the various tourism routes the country has on offer and to earn a living doing what I love. Who is your ideal target audience? I’m more focused on helping small tourism operators on running profitable websites for their operations. A website if used properly can greatly improve the bottom line of your business. Besides helping small tourism operators I also blog about the latest trends within the industry in South Africa. May I also take this opportunity to invite...
